Meet “Greek Fire,” an ancient weapon that was nearly impossible to extinguish, and whose composition remains a profound mystery for experts even to this date. Many refer to it as the best-kept secret of the Ancient World. Oh and… Greek Fire was accompanied by “thunder” and “much smoke.”  It was one of the most fearful ancient weapons of ancient times. Its composition remains a profound mystery for scientists, it cannot be replicated, and it goes by a variety of names, such as “sea fire,” “Roman fire,” “war fire,” “liquid fire,” “sticky fire,” or “manufactured fire.” This mysterious ancient weapon burned on water, and according to many accounts, was IGNITED by water. The fire could only be extinguished by a few SPECIFIC substances, most notoriously sand (as it deprives oxygen of the fire) a strong vinegar and urine, as these two create a chemical reaction which reduces the flames. Greek fire was not a projective; it was a liquid substance unlike many authors state. While at sea, it was ejected through a siphon although later on it was adapted to be used in pots or as grenades. Curiously, and what captures my attention most is the fact that all of those who have described witnessing Greek Fire indicate how Greek Fire was accompanied by “thunder” and “much smoke.” Throughout history, ancient mankind has created an infinity of weapons of enormous destructive capacity, from the earliest uses of gunpowder to today’s nuclear bombs. But in the range of horrors, very few weapons have astonished historians and awakened the imagination of many as much as the legendary Greek Fire.  It is believed that a Jewish refugee in the Byzantine Empire, was the one who “invented the art of projecting liquid fire” during the reign of Constantine IV (668-685). Its composition is, to this day, a mystery. Writers of antiquity spoke about how it was made, but it remained a matter of speculation. There are some who say that “Greek Fire” was created by a mixture of oil ether, sulfur, coal, saltpeter, turpentine, and even pine resin. The Greek Fire was feared by the ancient world because it clung to the skin or the clothes, it burned longer and at a higher temperature, and unlike any other fire: it burned on water. Supposedly, the flames could only be extinguished with a mixture of urine, sand, and vinegar. The art of its composition was such a well-kept secret that those who knew it took it to the grave, meaning that—most likely—there arent any written records that mention its composition or how it was produced. According to historians, the ingredients and the processes of manufacture and deployment of Greek fire were carefully guarded military secrets. This fearful ancient weapon was launched with air pumps, giving the effect of a modern flamethrower. It was with this weapon that the Greek ships destroyed the Arab fleet that attacked Constantinople in 673. For many historians, the Greek Fire was a key weapon for the Byzantine Empire. Greek fire was ascribed by the chronicler Theophanes to Kallinikos, who was an architect from Heliopolis in the ancient province of Phoenice, by then occupied by the Muslim conquests: At that time Kallinikos, an artificer from Heliopolis, fled to the Romans. He had devised a sea fire which ignited the Arab ships and burned them with all hands. Thus it was that the Romans returned with victory and discovered the sea fire. The only known “recipe” of Greek fire comes from Anna Comnena—a Byzantine princess—who provided a description of the weapon after it was used by the Byzantine garrison of Dyrrhachium in 1108 against the Normans: This fire was made by the following arts. From the pine and the certain such evergreen trees inflammable resin is collected. This is rubbed with sulfur and put into tubes of reed, and is blown by men using it with violent and continuous breath. The truth is that countless ancient cultures across the planet have the belief that long hair has a unique and special significance. And even though some of these cultures were separated by thousands of miles, many similarities are present among them. Hair was considered an extension of the soul and evidence of that are traditions that many native American Indians have guarded until this day. For example, the Navajo only cut their children’s hair on the first birthday and avoided cutting again afterward. But the length of the hair in many ancient cultures was different than what we consider it today. For many of us, hair is just another stylistic concern; it makes us look better, sometimes younger sometimes older, depending on the length, color, and shape. Also, there are many ways you can actually wear your hair according to Native tradition. And there is a way to wear the hair for ceremonies and dances. For countless Native American cultures, braided hair meant unity with the infinite, and allowing the hair to flow freely signified the free flow of life.
But if we look at American history, Native Americans and especially the war that took place in Vietnam we’ll encounter fascinating details. Unlike what many may believe, hair may serve a much bigger purpose than as just an accessory. And while ”hair” is a matter of personal preference, we learn a lot from Native Americans when it comes to the way they wear their hair. During the War in Vietnam, the American military was in search for talented, young men—trackers—that could navigate their way in stealth across the enemy terrain. Special Forces in the war department sent undercover experts to comb American Indian Reservations where they found countless brave young men who were more than adequate for the task. Upon recruiting them, they carefully cataloged their abilities and talent’s and rapidly discovered that they were perfectly suited for the task. Soon after the young men were recruited/enlisted, and after going through the countless rituals of joining the army, the skills and talents which were ever-present seemed to vanish. Confused the army started searching for answers and turned to some of the Native American elders who without hesitating answered how when their young men received the mandatory haircut after joining the military, they could no longer “sense” the way they did before. Their almost supernatural abilities—their intuition—disappeared. After more recruits were gathered from Native American tribes, they decided to perform tests and see what was going on, and whether “the length of hair” had anything to do with their abilities. After several tests where “trackers” with long hair competed against others with short hair, experts found how trackers with longer hair had access to something like a ‘sixth sense’ with an intuition much more reliable when compared to men with short hair. For example, the ancient builders made sure to implement as many mathematical formulas in the pyramid as possible. They managed to represent the relation between Pi and Phi in the fundamental proportions of the Great Pyramid But one of the most fascinating characteristics about the Great Pyramid—and something I did not find out until recently—is the fact that is the ONLY eight sided pyramid found to date. The centers of the four sides of the Great Pyramid of Giza are proven to be indented with a never-before-seen precision which results in the ONLY eight sided Pyramid on Earth. This extraordinary effect cannot be appreciated from the ground and is only observable from the air, and only under proper lighting conditions. It remains a great mystery as to HOW someone managed to erect a structure like the Great Pyramid of Giza without the use of ‘advanced technology.’ Currently, experts from the Scan Pyramids project are studying the Great Pyramid with a number of tools including Cosmic-ray detectors, 3D scans with lasers, and Infrared Thermography. So far, they are nearly 100 percent certain that there are numerous voids or empty chambers inside the Pyramid that have remained sealed since the construction was complete. According to mainstream scholars, the construction of the great Pyramid of Giza began in 1540 B.C. and took 23 years to complete. Knowing that the Great Pyramid contains a staggering 2.3 million blocks—with an average block weighing around 7 tons, it means that the builders of the Pyramid had to set a block every 2.5 minutes, 7 days a week to finish it in23 years. A mysterious stone slab, covered with ancient symbols no one has been able to decipher has baffled experts ever since it was discovered. It remains unclear why the symbols were engraved and what message the ancient stone slab—which dates back thousands of years—is meant to convey.  Referred to as the “Stela of Montoro” the enigmatic ancient slab was unearthed in a farmers field in southern Spain. Experts believe how the curious symbols engraved on its surface could be the earliest monumental script in the Iberian Peninsula. However, no one has been able to make sense of the symbols, leaving experts baffled. The stela contains elements reminiscent of other symbols that have been found half way across the world in the American Continent where countless strange shapes, circles, and lines were etched by ancient civilizations across the continent thousands of years ago.  Even more interesting is the fact that the “Stela of Montoro” reassembles in many aspects the so-called Cochno stone located in Scotland, a massive ancient slab which dates back at least 5,000 years.  Scientists believe that the ancient stela dates back to around the 3rd century BC, and contains different elements of Spanish, Greek, Iberian, Canaanite and South Arabian languages, making it an extremely worthy piece. The stela itself isn’t small. It has a height of 1.5 meters and a width of 85 centimeters. According to Cambridge Antiquity, the curious symbols were most likely engraved sometime between the 9th and 3rd century BC. Experts wrote in the study how the “writing includes elements of a North Eastern Palaeo-Hispanic script, Graeco-Iberian script, Proto-Sinaitic and Proto-Canaanite inscriptions, epigraphic South Arabian and Phoenician scripts.”  The curious artifact was found by a farmer in the south of Spain in 2002. However, the item was dumped to the side of the field where it remained until 2004 when two rangers noticed the curious engravings and decided to take it to the Montoro Archaeological Museum where it remained for eight years. The stela was thoroughly analyzed in 2012 when Dr. Garcia Sanjuan from the University of Seville found out that the symbols adorning the surface of the stela originate from different languages. “It’s rare to find something like this – the inscriptions on this stela cannot be read. There isn’t a single script that makes sense of them. They seem to be an assorted collection of graphemes taken from different scripts and put together on this stone,” Dr. Sanjuán told IBTimes UK. Experts have been left baffled by the ancient slab and have no idea why the engravings were made in the first place, and what message the slab carries. If we take a look at the records of ancient Egyptian historian Manetho and the Turin King List, Sa-Nakht ruled over the ancient Egyptian empire for 18 years, but many archaeologists argue how his exact time on the throne remains a mystery. His existence is attested by seal fragments found at mastaba K2 at Beit Khallaf and a graffito— a deliberate mark made by scratching or engraving on a large surface such as a wall. In recent years, thanks to numerous archaeological discoveries at Abydos, the Sa-Nakht’s position as the founder of ancient Egypt’s Third Dynasty, as recorded by Manetho and the Roya Turin Canon has been seriously undermined, creating more confusion around the ancient Egyptian pharaoh as never before. Ok, so what DO we know? We know her was a true GIANT for his time. It is believed that in 1901, at the small village of Beit Khallaf archeologists excavated the remains belonging to Sa-Nakht. The skeletal remains belonged to a man who stood a staggering 6 feet 1.6 inches, nearly 2.00 meters. This would have made Pharaoh Sa-Nakht a true giant. According to previous studies, the average height for men around this time was about 5 feet 6 inches (1.7 m) according to the co-author of the study Michael Habicht. According to Charles S. Myers, in the book “The Bones of Hen Nekht, an Egyptian King of the Third Dynasty,” Sa-Nakht skull was rather large and capacious. Even though his cranial index was unusually broad and almost brachycephalic, the proportions of his long bones were tropically adjusted like those of most other ancient Egyptians at that time.  The mind-boggling height of Sa-Nakht was unlike anything previously seen. In fact, he was so tall that he would have towered over Ramesses II, the tallest recorded ancient Egyptian pharaoh—around 5 feet 9 inches (1.75 m) tall—who ruled over ancient Egypt 1000 years after Sa-Nakht. A study published in The Lancet: Diabetes & Endocrinology, indicates how the ancient Egyptian Pharaoh may have suffered from Gigantism. Experts from the University of Zurich who have thoroughly analyzed the remains believe that this is the oldest example of Gigantism in human history. Contrary to popular belief, Sa-Nakht’s height may not have granted him any social advantages, as, during ancient Egypt’s early dynasties, short statues were preferred, since there were “many small people in royal service,” concluded experts in the study. “The reasons for this inclination are not always certain,” concluded the co-author of the study Michael Habicht, an Egyptologist from the University of Zurich’s Institute of Evolutionary Medicine. Sir William Petrie: Several authors maintain that English archaeologist Sir William Petrie kept in his private collection mummies of alien origin. Electricity: It’s hard to even to imagine how the ancient Egyptians built their majestic pyramids, and temples without any advanced technology. Proponents of this theory point towards the Dendera Bulb— in the Hathor temple at the Dendera Temple complex—and the so-called Baghdad batteries. Still not convinced? Well, let me introduce you to the Tulli Papyrus, an apocryphal document that allegedly describes the appearance of flying saucers during the rule of Pharaoh Thutmose III. While some blindly believe in the authenticity of the papyrus, others assert that the text is not real. But even if that isn’t enough, we have the Turin Royal Canon, an ancient Papyrus that proves ‘Gods’ ruled over Ancient Egypt. Interestingly, the final two lines of the Turin Royal Canon, which seem to represent a resume of the entire ancient text are particularly interesting and remind us of the Sumerian King List.
