Gilgamesh is usually considered a legendary character from Sumerian mythology, although many authors and scholars argue he may, in fact, have lived thousands of years ago. He is referred to as the first hero on Earth and is a central figure in the Epic of Gilgamesh. As an important character that he is, in this article we explore some of the most interesting facts about Gilgamesh, that help understand who this ancient hero was, and what legacy he left behind.  The Facts According to the Sumerian King List, Gilgamesh, son of the goddess Ninsun and the Priest-King Lugalbanda, the king of the district of Kulab and fifth king of the city Uruk (Erech in the biblical texts, current Warqa, in Iraq) around the year 2750 B.C. He most likely did rule between 2800 and 2500 BC and was posthumously deified. Gilgamesh succeeded King Lugalbanda. He reigned for 126 years and left the throne to his son Ur-Nungal, who ruled for 30 years. Gilgamesh, who was king of Uruk, is usually referred to as a human being, bet he is said to have been two-thirds god, and one-third human. It is believed that Gilgamesh was blessed by the gods with strength, courage, and beauty, and is referred to as the strongest and greatest king who ever existed The first researchers who studied the Sumerian language read his name, erroneously, as Izdubar. He is perhaps best known as being the protagonist of the Poem of Gilgamesh, also referred to as the Epic of Gilgamesh. The Epic of Gilgamesh is considered the greatest literary work oldest in the world and is placed among the earliest known literary writings in the world. The work originated as a series of Sumerian legends and poems in cuneiform script dating back to the early 3rd or late 2nd millennium B.C. Historians agree that the Epic of Gilgamesh exerted substantial influence on both the Iliad and the Odyssey. The Epic of Gilgamesh follows the son of the goddess Nnisun, who traveled with his friend Enkidu, as they begin a series of perilous quests and adventures. Gilgamesh, who was an irresistible king slept with newlywed women of Uruk. This made the people unhappy. In turn, the goddess of creation, Aruru, creates a mighty wild-man named Enkidu, a rival in strength to Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh and Enkidu fight a great battle, where Gilgamesh comes out as the winner. Gilgamesh spares Enkidu’s life, and they become friends. Together, Gilgamesh and Enkidu go on adventures. They defeat Humbaba (the East Semitic name for Huwawa) and the Bull of Heaven. In the Epic of Gilgamesh, Enkidu dies of a disease which was sent down by the Gods as a punishment. This makes Gilgamesh afraid of his death. He decides to visit the sage Utnapishtim, who was a survivor of the Great Flood. Gilgamesh searches for immortality. Gilgamesh does not manage to find the secret to immortality. He repeatedly fails the trials set before him, and eventually returns home to Uruk and realizes that immortality is beyond his reach. Despite the fact that there is evidence in ancient works of literature of his existence, scholars have not found any contemporary mention of Gilgamesh anywhere. Gilgamesh is referred to as a ruler by King Enmebaragesi of Kish, a known historical figure who is believed to have lived near or during Gilgamesh’s lifetime. The Tummal Inscription, a thirty-four-line historiographic text composed during the reign of Ishbi-Erra, credits Gilgamesh with building the walls of Uruk: “For a second time, the Tummal fell into ruin, Gilgamesh built the Numunburra of the House of Enlil. Ur-lugal, the son of Gilgamesh, Made the Tummal pre-eminent, Brought Ninlil to the Tummal.” There are fragments of an epic text found in Me-Turan (modern Tell Haddad) which indicate that at the end of his life, Gilgamesh was buried under the river bed. Despite the fact that throughout the millennia ancient civilizations built incredible structures across the planet, the Great Pyramid of Giza outshines nearly all of them. It was built using milestone and granite, and mortar experts have not been able to reproduce. It is believed that the Great Pyramid was commissioned by Khufu, and was built as a tomb over a 10- to 20-year period concluding around 2560 BC. The Pyramid’s ancient name was Khufu’s Horizon. Another fascinating discovery has been made by scientists in the Great Pyramid of Giza. More evidence has been found that the Great Pyramid of Giza, one of the most astonishing ancient structures on the surface—though to be a tomb—was not a resting place for a pharaoh. A team of German and Russian researchers has discovered that the Great Pyramid of Giza, focuses electromagnetic energy in its chambers and concentrates the electromagnetic energy in its lower part, located beneath the surface. The researchers took an interest in how the Great Pyramid of Giza would interact with electromagnetic waves of a proportional or, in other words, resonant length, explains an article by Eureka Alert. The study has been published in the Journal of Applied Physics. In a statement, ITMO University, Russia, wrote: “While Egyptian pyramids are surrounded by many myths and legends, we have little scientifically reliable information about their physical properties. As it turns out, sometimes this information proves to be more striking than any fiction.”  Dr. Sc. Andrey Evlyukhin, scientific supervisor, and coordinator of the revolutionary study wrote: “Egyptian pyramids have always attracted great attention. We as scientists were interested in them as well, so we decided to look at the Great Pyramid as a particle dissipating radio waves resonantly.” “Due to the lack of information about the physical properties of the pyramid, we had to use some assumptions. For example, we assumed that there are no unknown cavities inside, and the building material with the properties of an ordinary limestone is evenly distributed in and out of the pyramid. With these assumptions made, we obtained interesting results that can find important practical applications.” Evliujin and researchers at the University of Hanover (Germany) applied several types of electromagnetic radiation to the pyramid and found that the construction interacts with them. The pyramid behaves like a resonant cavity, like a resonator – a device that oscillates at certain frequencies with a greater amplitude to others – that attracts and amplifies the radio waves. To understand how the Great Pyramid interacted with electromagnetic waves, researchers first estimated how resonances (sound prolonged by reflection or vibrations) caused by radio waves might be induced, writes Science Alert.  “We had to use some assumptions,” says Andrey Evlyukhin, senior researcher from ITMO University in Russia. “For example, we assumed that there are no unknown cavities inside, and the building material with the properties of an ordinary limestone is evenly distributed in and out of the pyramid.” Then, scientists made a model of the Great Pyramid and its electromagnetic response. They then calculated something called the extinction cross section, which allowed them to estimate how the wave energy is scattered or absorbed by the pyramid. Using what researchers call a multipole analysis, they discovered that the scattered fields concentrated in the pyramid’s internal chambers as well as beneath its surface. Many authors describe this incredible bings as spirits or personifications in the real world. In fact, according to legend, these spirits visit the Hopi villages during the first half of each year. The pantheon of kachinas varies in each community. There may be kachinas for the sun, stars, thunderstorms, wind, corn, insects, and many other concepts. No one knows where they come from, but according to local legends of the Hopi, the Kachinas are benevolent spiritual beings who came to the Hopi tribe through the underworld. The Bringers of Rain In addition to being referred to as the carrier of life, the Kachinas are those responsible for bringing the rain and all other blessings of life of the Hopi. Eventually, the Hopi took these benevolent spiritual beings for granted, losing all reverence and respect to them, making the Kachinas return to the underworld. The Ceremony Before leaving, the Kachinas thought their ceremonies to the young men of the tribes, showing them how to make masks and costumes. The Ancient Hopi honor the Kachinas with ceremonies that have been performed since time immemorial. Every year, the Zunis participate in a ceremony referred to as the Shalako festival. Dressed in traditional costumes to represent the kachinas, the Indians celebrate the arrival of the gods on earth. The Masks, costumes, and traditions: worship of Ancient Astronauts?
