{"id":3923767,"date":"2026-02-01T19:03:24","date_gmt":"2026-02-02T00:03:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mikedyess.info\/para\/ancient-warrior-woman-found-buried-with-rare-jewelry-created-during-the-roman-empire\/"},"modified":"2026-02-01T19:03:24","modified_gmt":"2026-02-02T00:03:24","slug":"ancient-warrior-woman-found-buried-with-rare-jewelry-created-during-the-roman-empire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/mikedyess.info\/para\/ancient-warrior-woman-found-buried-with-rare-jewelry-created-during-the-roman-empire\/","title":{"rendered":"Ancient warrior woman found buried with rare jewelry created during the Roman Empire"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>A tomb containing a 2,000-old-year old skeleton was recently unearthed in the Russian republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, and it appears the remains are of an ancient warrior woman who lived during the height of the Roman Empire, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/sciencetech\/article-7665209\/Roman-jewellery-body-2-000-year-old-barbarian-woman-Caucasus.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according to the <em>Daily Mail<\/em><\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cShe was found in the North Caucasus and is thought to have been of a \u2018high-status\u2019 within her community \u2013 possibly the wife, sister or mother of a prominent warrior or chieftain.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Of particular interest to the archaeologists who found the tomb was the jewelry discovered at the same time, including two \u201cvery valuable rings\u201d with dark glass centers. Archaeologist Anna Kadieva noted:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cShe had two rings on her fingers manufactured with the use of quite a complex technology.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEach of them is cast from transparent white glass with golden fibres from the same material, with a dark glass installation in the middle.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_44688\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-44688\" style=\"width: 634px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-44688 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ancient-code.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/ring2.jpg\" alt=\"ring2\" width=\"634\" height=\"504\" title=\"Ancient warrior woman found buried with rare jewelry created during the Roman Empire 1\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-44688\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">One of the rings found in the tomb (Via North Caucasus united archaeolog)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The woman is thought to have been from the Alans warrior people who arrived in Caucasus in the 1st and 2nd centuries AD, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ancient-origins.net\/news-history-archaeology\/warrior-woman-0012841\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Ancient Origins<\/em> reports<\/a>. The rings were likely \u201cRoman made,\u201d and a description of them highlights just how much work went into producing the items:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cA bright violet amethyst medallion was also discovered and archaeologists found that the beads found on the woman\u2019s shoes were crafted of glass containing \u2018carnelian,\u2019 which is an orangey mineral belonging to the Quartz family and widely used during Roman times in engraved gems for signet (or seal) rings for imprinting wax seals on correspondences.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_44689\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-44689\" style=\"width: 634px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-44689 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ancient-code.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/ring1.jpg\" alt=\"ring1\" width=\"634\" height=\"361\" title=\"Ancient warrior woman found buried with rare jewelry created during the Roman Empire 2\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-44689\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The workmanship on the rings is similar to that found in the ancient Roman Empire (VIa North Caucasus united archaeolog)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h5>The Caucasus Connection<\/h5>\n<p>Though most of us have heard of the Caucasus region, you may not know that it was once a region of great importance because the isthmus itself is a land bridge between the Eurasian steppes and Western Asia. So it served as a way to pass between Europe and Asia during the days that Rome was the dominant power across much of the known world. And over the past couple of decades, there has been extensive <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ancient-code.com\/amputated-limbs-battle-of-waterloo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">archaeological excavations<\/a> in the locations that were home to the majority of the population. The results of those international missions have yielded a great deal of new finds.<\/p>\n<p>All of this leads researchers to speculate that the jewels found in the Russian tomb may have been \u201cjewels of war,\u201d <em>Ancient Origins<\/em> <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ancient-origins.net\/news-history-archaeology\/warrior-woman-0012841\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">notes<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cRoman soldiers reached South Caucasus at the end of the 2nd century BC and the Kingdom of Colchis was completely destroyed and incorporated into the Roman Empire as the province of Lazicum. The preceding 600 years of South Caucasian history were marked by the struggle between Rome and the Sassanids of Persia, who according to\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.historynet.com\/roman-persian-wars.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><em>HistoryNet<\/em><\/a>, allied with the Romans in the Roman-Persian Wars.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"attachment_44693\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-44693\" style=\"width: 472px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-44693 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ancient-code.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/tomb.jpg\" alt=\"tomb\" width=\"472\" height=\"630\" title=\"Ancient warrior woman found buried with rare jewelry created during the Roman Empire 4\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-44693\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The tomb where the jewels were found (Via North Caucasus united archaeolog)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In 69 AD, the Roman Empire was in the midst of a bloody civil war, and part of that took place in the Caucus region that is home to the warrior tomb:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe people of the kingdoms of Colchis (Caucasus) and Pontus, an ancient district in northeastern Anatolia adjoining the Black Sea, staged a major tribal uprising against Roman rule which ended unsuccessfully.
