Sumer is a historical region of the Middle East, the southern part of ancient Mesopotamia, between the alluvial plains of the Euphrates and Tigris rivers.<\/p>\n

The Sumerian civilization is considered, according to many authors, as the first and oldest civilization on the surface of the planet, even though there is evidence that the Vinca Culture from Europe is older.<\/p>\n

Although the origin of its inhabitants, the Sumerians, is uncertain, there are numerous hypotheses as to where they came from.<\/p>\n

The ancient Sumerians were the first people who started building actually organized cities laid out using actual city grids like we see in modern-day cities around the world.<\/p>\n

The ancient inhabitants of Mesopotamia invented\u00a0sewer systems, cobblestones -frequently used in the pavement of early streets, and they were also\u00a0taught\u00a0in Agriculture, but most\u00a0importantly\u00a0they were the first civilization that\u00a0invented\u00a0the first known writing\u00a0system by using the cuneiform\u00a0script on clay tablets. All of this cultural and technological boom came basically out of nowhere. The biggest issue is their origin, as experts cannot agree\u00a0from where these people came from.<\/p>\n

It seems plausible that the Sumerians were a tribe that came from elsewhere, possibly from the steppes, but their exact origin is unknown. This historic issue is referred to, since the twentieth century as the \u201cSumerian problem.\u201d<\/p>\n

In any case, it is during the Ubaid period when there are advances that crystallize in the Uruk period, and that serve to consider this moment as the beginning of the Sumerian civilization.<\/p>\n

Some scholars also postulate that the Sumerians established in Mesopotamia, would not have an autochthonous origin, but would come from the culture that founded the city of Mohenjo-Daro (which existed between 2600 BC and 1800 BC) in India.<\/p>\n

Wherever they may have come from, they were one of the most advanced ancient civilizations to\u00a0live on Earth, and history tells us many interesting facts and stories about the Sumerians. Even today experts still do not have a complete picture that could tell them everything about the people that once inhabited the region of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.<\/p>\n

The Ubaid Period; The Start of Civilization?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The\u00a0Ubaid period\u00a0(c. 6500 to 3800 BC)\u00a0is a\u00a0prehistoric\u00a0period of\u00a0Mesopotamia. The name derives from\u00a0Tell al-`Ubaid\u00a0where the earliest large excavation of Ubaid period material was conducted initially by\u00a0Henry Hall\u00a0and later by\u00a0Leonard Woolley.<\/p>\n

Divided into four main phases, and spreading from\u00a0Eridu, the Ubaid culture extended from the Middle of the Tigris and Euphrates to the shores of the Persian Gulf, and then spread down past\u00a0Bahrain\u00a0to the copper deposits at\u00a0Oman.<\/p>\n

The First City On Earth<\/strong><\/h2>\n

According to the\u00a0Sumerian King List<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0Eridu was the first city in the World. The opening line reads:<\/p>\n

[eri]duki<\/sup>\u00a0nam-lugal-la\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen kingship from heaven was lowered,<\/strong><\/p>\n

the kingship was in Eridu.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

As noted by Sumerian mythology, the ancient city of Eridu was ONE of the FIVE ancient cities built on Earth before the great deluge.<\/p>\n

Eridu was the most southern city of the conglomerate of Mesopotamia and important center of the cult to the God of the water, Enki.<\/p>\n

The Sumerian King List; When Gods Ruled The Earth<\/strong><\/h2>\n

One of the most valuable artifacts discovered from the Sumerian Civilization is the so-called Sumerian King List.<\/p>\n

This ancient text describes in great detail a time when Earth was ruled by beings referred to as \u2018Gods\u2019 for thousands of years.<\/p>\n

The list composed in Ancient Sumerian offers details about numerous generations of kings that ruled over the land of ancient Sumer. The list not only offers us their names, but it details their supposed length and location of Kingship.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026Alulim\u00a0became king; he ruled for 28800 years.\u00a0Alaljar\u00a0ruled for 36000 years. 2 kings; they ruled for 64800 years. Then\u00a0Eridug\u00a0fell and the kingship was taken to\u00a0Bad-tibira. In\u00a0Bad-tibira,\u00a0En-men-lu-ana\u00a0ruled for 43200 years\u2026\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Ancient Astronaut Theory; The Anunnaki Gods<\/strong><\/h2>\n

As noted by the ancient astronaut theory, thousands of years ago, even\u00a0before recorded history, our planet\u00a0was visited by astronauts\u00a0from another world. Extremely advanced beings with technology\u00a0beyond\u00a0our own today came to Earth and helped kick-start modern civilization.<\/p>\n

In the 19th century\u00a0archaeologists\u00a0exploring the\u00a0ancient ruins of Nineveh discovered\u00a022,000 clay tablets. After translation, these\u00a0tablets\u00a0showed amazing similar stories to those found in\u00a0the Judeo-Christian Bible.<\/p>\n

We find stories of the great flood in these tablets and we can even read of Adam and Eve so basically all of these stories have\u00a0precedence with the ancient Sumerians.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In 1976 author Zecharia\u00a0Sitchin\u00a0<\/strong>published his personal\u00a0translations of the Sumerian\u00a0texts in a series of books\u00a0called \u201cThe Earth Chronicles<\/em>\u201c.<\/p>\n

According to Sitchin, the clay\u00a0tablets describe an alien race\u00a0known as the Anunnaki<\/strong> who came\u00a0to Earth to mine gold.<\/p>\n

Sitchin<\/em> practically suggests that extraterrestrial visited earth in the past\u00a0because\u00a0their\u00a0home-planet needed gold to survive. The gold deposits in their atmosphere were depleting so they came to Earth, mined old and took it back to their planet to save it.<\/p>\n

Today, numerous authors around the world believe Sitchin was right, despite the fact that mainstream scholars completely disagree with his theories.<\/p>\n

Ancient Astronaut theorists agree that based on numerous archaeological discoveries: artifacts, records and monuments found in the past by experts, it is believed that the Anunnaki (Sumerian: \u201cthose who came down from the heavens), an extremely advanced civilization from an elusive planet in our solar system, came to Earth, landing in the Persian Gulf some 432,000 years ago.<\/strong><\/p>\n
